Muhammad Ali Exhibition Including Photographs by Peter Angelo Simon in Berlin

These photographs were taken in August 1974 at Ali’s Deer Lake, PA, training camp, the rural sanctuary he called Fighter’s Heaven. This was a month before the “Rumble in The Jungle”, the pivotal African fight against George Foreman for the World Heavyweight Champinship title. This was Ali’s chance to regain the title that had been stripped from him when he refused th Viet Nam Draft. I never asked Ali to pose. As a result I was able to make an intimate study of Ali as he prepared his body and spirit for the fight. These four images well represent my intention to capture Ali’s activities naturally at this moment in his career.
