Fred Stein Exhibition at Rosenberg and Co.

Date: Nov 19, 2015 - Jan 15, 2016

FredStein

Rosenberg & Co. is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by Fred Stein.

Stein was an important photographer during the dawn of street photography and a pioneer of the 35mm hand-held camera era. He worked with luminaries such as Robert Capa, Gerda Taro, and Henri Cartier-Bresson and is renowned for mastering great portraiture featuring many illustrious artists, writers, and intellectuals of the period.

Stein was first and foremost a humanist, committed to veracity and respecting the dignity of his subjects, both famed and anonymous. His images present intimate and honest realities of the cities in which he lived and the people who inhabited them, and in turn provide us with a window into history, a glimpse ofThe World of Fred Stein.

Rosenberg & Co. is honored to represent the artist estate and curate an exclusive collection of vintage prints from the photographer’s lifetime. The exhibition encompasses works from Stein’s time in Paris before World War II, his subsequent life in New York City, and post-war journeys back to Europe.
