Photographer Robert Whitman has travelled the world in search of humanity’s social, cultural and creative experience. In the PILOBOLUS project, the human creative experience takes center stage.
Created in 2007 and 2008, Whitman explores the extraordinary range of the Pilobolus Dance Theater. The creative matchup of this particular troupe of dancers and this particular photographer was perfect: both are noted for their daring aesthetic, challenging boundaries.
Curated by Ann Aptaker, the show has already generated controversy at the A Gallery at A Condos, bringing up the questions: What kind of imagery is suitable in a public space? Is there such a thing as art that is unsuitable? Should moral sensitivities dominate? Just what is a moral sensitivity?
