George Tice: Seldom Seen and Big Platinums
Time: All Day
Location: Berman Museum
With a career spanning more than sixty years, George Tice has made iconic photographs of the urban landscape—of gas stations, water towers, and even a White Castle hamburger joint—that are a testament to the overlooked beauty in our ordinary comings and goings. Often turning his camera to his native New Jersey, Tice typically photographs at night, using long exposures that give the mundane street scenes, shops, movie theaters, and odd assortments of other buildings a nostalgic glow. Above all else, Tice is a master technician, placing his work among the best examples of the dwindling craft of darkroom photography. At the Berman Museum, Tice’s unmistakable master works are paired with many images that have never been seen before.
